Fortnite is an immensely popular game, and if you want to fully enjoy it with your friends, you should level up your play style and think like a pro. Fortnite Battle Royale is easy to learn, hard to master. That’s why, if you’ve not picked it up before, it is quite easy to pick the game up and start shooting stuff. But, if you want to master all the different aspects, you need to spend a lot of time learning about the minutiae of the game’s mechanics and practice playing. Here’s a list of tips you can use to quickly get better and crush the other players.

#1 Be Aggressive in the Beginning

The first few minutes of a match is extremely important – during this period, you have to focus extensively on two things:

  • Getting ammo, health packs, weapons, and other resources are absolutely vital early on. Without those things, you won’t have a chance later on in the game.
  • The starting position on the map will come into play later on – while most other players are scrambling for resources and don’t focus too much on their surrounding, you should keep an eye on the world map and learn how to position yourself.

#2 Learn How to Heal Effectively

Unlike most other shooters, you DON’T get your health back as time passes, so you have to be extremely careful about your health. There are medkits (what health packs are called in Fortnite) all over the place, and you need to actively look out for them and keep a reasonable stock. You also have a shield that protects you from bullets and physical attacks but doesn’t protect your health when you fall or take storm damage. That’s why it is less important than health, but still vitally important. Make sure your health doesn’t go below 20% even if your shield health is full, so you don’t suddenly die from a fall etc.

#3 Think Carefully About Your Inventory

Speed is a key element of the game – who plays faster, shoots the first bullet quicker, and prepares for engaging immediately almost always wins a battle. That’s why you should streamline your gameplay and strategize before even engaging another player. A key area you can improve your speed is by organizing your inventory – by carefully filling up the slots one by one with certain weapon types or items, you ensure that you’ll always have access to the same weapon when you press a certain button. This means you won’t suddenly get anxious and lost when you encounter an enemy, but you can quickly recover and respond in the best way possible.

#4 Never Forget About the Building Feature

The building feature is quite unique and fun to mess around in Fortnite. Strategically, it eliminates the need to always look for cover inside buildings or other predeveloped areas inside a map and gives you the flexibility to construct covers tailored to your unique play style. You should keep some stuff in mind when building, however:

  • Don’t start building right away at the start of the game. Even if you decided to build, only create simple structures. It’s highly unlikely you’ll stay at your current position, so all the time you wasted on creating the perfect building will go to waste later on in the game when you are forced to move out.
  • As it is unique, you’ll need some time to get used to it, but always try to build protective cover when you’re shot at. It’s much easier to respond effectively when you’re protected.

#5 Watch How Others Play

There’s no shortage of professional Fortnite players that upload their videos on YouTube and stream on Twitch, and if you feel like you’ve hit a wall and can’t get better at the game, maybe you should give them a watch.

These players make a living playing the game, and they have plenty of useful Fortnite tips and tricks to help you get better at the game. Not to mention, the only way they can manage to retain a large audience is by being entertaining and fun to watch, which means you won’t get bored as you learn from the best of the best.

#6 Customize The Controls and Sensitivity

Everyone’s playstyle, response time, and shooting skills are different, and to get the best out of your games, you should customize the controls to best suit your skills.

The most important setting to customize is the sensitivity of the analog stick or the mouse. They are responsible for how responsive and fast your weapon moves in-game – if it is too sensitive, you’ll have a hard time shooting accurately. If the sensitivity is too low, you won’t be able to respond fast enough to other players’ attacks. That’s why you should find out the best setting for you, and this comes through a lot of trial and error.
