Clean water is something in life that will never fail to live up to our expectations. We can’t overstate its importance, as it’s actually impossible! Clean water changes a lot in our lives, practically everything and all of our lives. This is why one of the Sustainable Development Goals involves clean water.

Besides this, we can’t live without it. Remember, we can’t live 3-4 days without water, though we can live for 3-4 weeks without food. But why exactly is clean drinking water essential? I’ll be showing you why a sustainable supply of clean drinking water is an absolute necessity for everyone.

Why Clean Drinking Water Is Essential

While water is something we consume and use every day, we tend to forget the amazing things it does for us as individuals and as a community worldwide. These are the reasons why access to clean drinking water is crucial for all of us.

  1. It Provides Nourishment

Water is our life. Once those in power can understand that, then the sooner laws regarding the availability of water would be implemented. Water is our top nutrition source, with our body being made up of 60% water, which is an obvious indication of how important water is.

We need to be hydrated for our physiological systems to function well. Furthermore, this will help maintain our organ health and allow us to maintain its consistency, as it is required to flow freely, transporting nutrients and oxygen to all cells in our bodies.

  1. Prevents Diseases

If people aren’t able to drink clean and safe water, it can have them be more prone to different types of diseases?

Cholera, Hepatitis A, typhoid, and other fatal medical conditions occur due to the presence and consumption of contaminated water. Imagine what people have to go through and the risks they are exposed to when they can only drink water from the sewage or contaminated sites.

Clean drinking water is necessary to stay safe from diseases and maintain great health conditions.

Unfortunately, unsafe water and poor sanitation cause up to 20% of workplace deaths, costing about $260 billion in lost productivity yearly. Furthermore, millions die from diseases that are caused by poor water quality and supply, along with poor sanitation and hygiene. Besides pneumonia, diarrhea is one of the main causes of death in children under 5 years old.

  1. Gets Rid of Toxins

Clean drinking water will help your body get rid of different kinds of toxins, whether created from bodily reactions, from outside sources, or those that occurred due to consuming contaminated water. This will then help with your overall health and protection from diseases.

  1. A Wider Reach

Clean drinking water doesn’t only benefit our health, the benefit can reach even wider in communities.

Women and girls will no longer need to walk for miles and miles just to find and fetch clean water daily. As a result, they will have more time and energy to learn, thus helping literacy rates rise. Furthermore, when schools will build better toilet facilities, girls can spend more time studying in school compared to staying at home.

It can also help the economy! For instance, the United Nations estimated that every Swiss franc that is invested in clean water and sanitation will lead to 4 francs in economic return. This is why investing in clean water for everyone can help create stronger and resilient communities that will pay off in the long run.

  1. Necessary for Agriculture and Food Production

When talking about food production, clean drinking water is a crucial ingredient. If crops and grains are fed with contaminated water, then bacteria and disease spread to people consuming this fresh produce. Furthermore, bacteria and disease would harm the growing crops, inhibiting growth or affecting harvest.

This is why water used for agriculture needs to come from resources that are safe and clean.

  1. Improve Sanitation Facilities

Clean water isn’t only required for drinking, but they are essential for sanitation purposes, too. If our clothes and bodies are washed using contaminated water, this would result in an increased risk of diseases.

The same will go for when we clean, cook, and perform other tasks and responsibilities that are important to our lives.

Wrapping It Up

Water is an absolutely primary necessity. If we didn’t have it, no one can survive. While there is a sustainable supply of clean drinking water Ivory Coast and other areas, unfortunately, there are places that do not have access to drinking water.

With all this in mind, it’s crucial to pave our way toward sustainable development and reach our goal toward access and management to clean water. Hopefully, this article gave insight into the importance of clean drinking water for everyone.
