Introducing XDR
Extended detection and response, or XDR for short, works on your behalf to make all systems visible at the touch of a few buttons. The XDR maintains a close watch over the endpoints within networks to pick up on any malicious intent. Once detected, the extended detection and response system will then react to the treat and work to eliminate it from the network. A notification will also be flagged up of the action taken.
Differentiating from SIEM which analyses data and then reports back to people on the ground, XDR systems are already built with existing security features which can not only protect but also build an anti virus barrier too.
Why use XDR?
Not agreed across the board, XDR infrastructures are seen as a great tool to build on business productivity as less attention is needed from staff analysts. With an XDR capable of alerting the business of threats in the system, there is less time and energy needed from staff to keep an eye on the data throughout the day and night.
Essentially this frees up a lot of valuable time so that businesses can focus on other areas which can help the firm the grow and continue making revenue.
Some businesses remain with other systems like VPNs or an endpoint detection and response (EDR), as they prefer a simple process. XDR however can be viewed as an upgrade to these pre-existing systems with the additional functionality to effectively replace some of the hours needed from the human staff.
Other ways to stay safe in the workplace
In addition to integrating an XDR in to the workplace, sufficient staff training should also be implemented. Ensuring your staff are fully in the know of how the system works means any issues can be dealt with directly and promptly, without opening the gates to even more issues.
Showing care towards staff can also help to reduce the risk of them turning against you. Too many businesses fall due to staff turning on their employers so make sure this isn’t an option.
Complex passwords can also be used to increase security on computer systems, using a combination of special characters, numbers and both upper and lower case letters. The more complex, the better chance of protecting data.
