What is BIOS? BIOS stand for Basic Input Output System. In a system of computer IBM PC or it is compatible with the family of Intel x86, it refers to a group of software that is capable to do certain things. they are initializing and testing the hardware known as Power on Self-Test or POST, loading and running the operation system, managing some basic configurations in a computer like the time, date, memory, booting process as well as the stabilization of a computer, and helping the operation system and applications in the setting process of hardware using BIOS Runtime Services. BIOS basically also serve the basic face-to-face communication and it is also able to control many kinds of hardware like keyboard. Due to its closeness to the hardware, BIOS was created using assembly language by the related machine.

Why is BIOS updating important?

So, do you need to update your programmed BIOS chips? Sure, it does. However, before talking about how to update this, it is better to know the definition of BIOS updating firstly. Updating or flashing BIOS is a process to delete the software on the chip and program and replace it with the newer software version by using special program namely flash utility.

How can we update the BIOS chips?

Before starting to update the BIOS of main board, there are some important matters that you must pay attention more. First, when you want to update the BIOS from Windows or using Windows Flasher software and it fails, it is impossible to recover the BIOS or repeat the process. Second, for the old version of motherboard where the BIOS chip is installed using socket, the only way to recover is by pulling out the chip and refreshing it using ROM Programmer. Third, for the newer version of motherboard, the BIOS chip is attached on the board so that it cannot be pulled out. Generally, it then can be done by replacing the jumper from Normal to Recovery mode. Then the last, for Dual BIOS Chip motherboard with two BIOS chips namely main and backup BIOS chip, just make sure that both are placed well. Based on the explanation in this paragraph, it is clear that the ways of updating BIOS are various depending on the types of motherboard that you have.

What should we do if the BIOS chips are corrupted?

However, the process of updating sometimes does not end smoothly due to the corruption of main BIOS chip. You must not worry since there are some ways as well to re-activate the corrupted BIOS chip. Again, it is depending on the BIOS factory and motherboard. Some of them are as follows;

1) before updating the BIOS, it is better to backup the chip since it will automatically copy the data saved and then you must paste it on the Main Chip, when it is restarted, everything can just be normal;

2) the users must rest the special jumper into certain positions; and

3) the users must push certain buttons on the keyboard during booting process.
